Welcome to Venango County, Pennsylvania
Venango County is located in western Pennsylvania about halfway between Pittsburgh and Erie. The county encompasses 675 square miles and includes the cities of Oil City and Franklin, nine boroughs and 20 townships. Venango County is classified as a sixth class county and is ranked 42nd in the state of 67 counties, with the population of 54,984.
The County seat is located in the City of Franklin at 1168 Liberty Street. The county was established in 1800 and the present courthouse was built in 1865.
Public transportation facilities include air passenger service to the Cleveland Airport from the Venango Regional Airport, with service provided by Gulfstream International Airlines. Also the Venango County Transportation Office also offers a fixed route transportation service within the county. The county is bordered by Interstate 80 running east to west, and Interstate 79 running north and South.

2014 Venango County
Municipal Solid Waste Management Plan and Ordinance Update
Venango County initiated the process of a countywide Municipal Solid Waste Plan update in August of 2012. This update was paid in part by an awarded Act 101, Section 901 planning grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection that funds up to 80% of the total cost of the plan.
The County hired Nestor Resources, Inc. from Valencia, Pa. and established a Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) to assist in updating the plan. The SWAC members represent a diverse group of individuals from businesses, industry and local municipal government in region. The committee offered a broad spectrum of feedback to the County and Nestor Resources, Inc. during the planning process.
In addition to the Plan update, a proposed update to the County Municipal Solid Waste & Recycling Transporters Ordinance has been drafted during the planning process. This document is located in Appendix D, page 207-218, of the Draft Plan. These documents can be viewed here:
A 30 day public comment period has been established running from August 11th, 2014 to September 9th, 2014. Physical copies of the Plan and Ordinance are located at: Commissioners Office(1174 Elk St., Franklin Pa.), The Law Library and Planning Commission office(Courthouse, 1168 Liberty St., Franklin Pa.), and the Franklin and Oil City Public Libraries.
