The public defender along with two assistants
represent all indigent accused of crimes within the county;
all juveniles upon request (regardless of the economic
status of the parents) and all persons being involuntarily
committed to a mental institution. The public defender
must be a member of the Pennsylvania Bar and may continue
private law practice during the appointment.
