The Retired & Senior
Volunteer Program is a part of the National Senior
Corps. It is funded by a federal grant and sponsored by
Venango County Area Agency on Aging. This program helps
people age 55 and older find rewarding opportunities for
community service. Each year 600+volunteers serve over 50 agencies. They do
everything from tutoring in schools ,
the Literacy council, to after school programs and
mapping to locate abandoned oil wells plus testing the
county streams. We need more people for the
environmental team and the Tax Team, before
November.
Volunteers are essential to
our county . They often keep the non profit agencies
open such as the theatres , museums, and thrift store.
Many lives have been touched by the trained volunteers
who do disaster relief, tax preparation,
soup kitchens, toy making,
meal delivering. museum docents, theatre work and
Nursing Home activity and physical therapy assistance. .
This is only a partial list of possibilities.
Please call the Project
Director to schedule and interview where your skills
apply. Training is free and insurance provided
during service hours. Volunteers choose their own hours
and have fun too!
