Support Groups


Venango County Human Services works hand and hand with various local support groups. Groups are organizations of people who share a common experience, or medical issue like depression or anxiety, who meet together to discuss their experiences, share ideas, and provide emotional support for one another. Most groups are led by a member with training in facilitating group discussions.

Adult Grief Support Group 

This support group is open to all adults in our community who could use support after the death of a loved one.

The meetings are held from 5 to 7 p.m., the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Fox Street Church of God located at 229 Fox Street in Franklin.

Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group

This group is conducted by trained facilitators meets from 11:30 to 1 p.m., the second Wednesday of the month at UPMC NW at 100 Fairfield Dr., in Conference Room A/B (please use the main lobby entrance).

The group focuses on helping to:

  • Develop a support system
  • Exchange practical information on caregiving challenges and possible solutions
  • Talk through issues and ways to cope
  • Share feelings, needs and concerns
  • Learn about community resources

Stroke Support

The Stroke Support group at UPMC NW provides education, support, and resources for individuals and families who have been affected by a stroke. Having a stroke can be very isolating. By meeting on a regular basis, group members help one another overcome common challenges.

The group meets at 1:30 p.m., the fourth Tuesday of every month at Hoss’s Steak and Sea House on SR 257 in Cranberry. Participants are responsible for the cost of their meal.

Depression Bi-Polar Support Alliance

This support group is open to the public for those 18 and older who have diagnoses of depression and/or bi-polar disorder. Depression and bipolar disorder can be isolating illnesses, but DBSA support groups can help those with these diagnoses to connect with others who have been there as well. Having support is essential to recovery. All meetings are confidential.

This group meets from 5 to 6 p.m., the 2nd Tuesday of each month at The Pointe
located on 259 Seneca Street in Oil City.

Wellness Group at The Pointe

The group meets at 5 p.m., the fourth Tuesday of every month at The Pointe located on 259 Seneca Street in Oil City.

Each month offers a different type of wellness in an effort to provide a well-rounded plan for wellness.

Bereavement group for all ages. This is a 14-week program.  Each week’s lesson is self-contained so that you are able to join at any time. They typically meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays at the Atlantic Avenue United Brethren Church.
